If you have a Website it is likely you will need SEO in some form or another. Many companies make the mistake or spending a lot of money on a website and then failing to budget for SEO. While the idea of “If I build it they will come” is a nice concept it is not always realistic.
For example if we look at Blackpool Hotels, when I type Blackpool Hotels into Google there are 1,930,000 results our of all them results 35,000 of them sites have Blackpool Hotels within the Title Tag. If we reduce the search to pages from the UK the number only drops to 1,850,000 and 28,000 respectively. Blackpool Hotels is not even a massively competitive market (though it is quite competitive). The term SEO returns 186,000,000 results with 4,700,000 sites with that term in the Title Tag.
As you can see just building a website does not guarantee you fortunes. This is where Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) comes in to play. You basically need to tell Google, Yahoo, and MSN that your site is about Blackpool Hotels or whatever your chosen industry is. A large part of this done via on-site optimisation, how is Google expected to rank you well if you do not even mention Blackpool Hotels on your site?
As part of our on-site SEO we will optimise:
Unfortunately with every site out there that optimises its content properly there are many more that try and deceive Google into ranking the site highly. Quite often people will try and take shortcuts by stuffing pages with keyword rich content, this will either create unreadable content or they will likely hide these keywords using white on white text, noscripts and cascading style sheets. While this may be fruitful in the short term this contravenes the guidelines set by Google and the site will get penalised and potentially removed from Google. All the techniques we use conform to the guidelines Google sets, we try and develop quality unique content that both the user and Google will love.
So now your site is optimised why does it still not rank very highly? Well once again you are competing with many other websites. If you are selling Pink Pokerdot Hippo Figurines and that is the term you are targeting then you are probably ok as I doubt many sites are competing with that term. Unfortunately for Blackpool Hotels there are 35,000 websites with that term in the title bar there are also around 12,000 website with that in the URL so you are basically competing with 12,000+ sites that are optimised, deliberately or not, for Blackpool Hotels.
Now you basically need to have other websites tell Google that your site is about Blackpool Hotels, this is essentially done by gaining Back Links to your site with keyword rich anchor text.
As part our off-site Search Engine Optimisation some of the techniques we will use are (if relevant to the website/client):
As with the websites that try and cheat Google with keyword stuffing etc many companies will try and cheat Google with link building these include various techniques such as forum spamming, trackback spamming, link farms, link exchange networks, dummy sites linking to your site etc.
One of the main techniques people use for link building which is now against Google’s terms of service is the buying of links (paid links). While a site will not be banned from the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS) for paid links Google is now de-valuing paid links and stripping/reducing the Page Rank of many sites. As with our on-site SEO, Dolphin Promotions builds links through valid techniques that will not harm your site and get it penalised.
