I come across this all the time. I do think anyone can do anything, it just depends on how much time they want to spend learning and doing it.

I do my own seo because I have spent a considerable amount of time (and money) learning how to do it.

Clients in general dont want to, they just want someone to do everything for them, the same way that I get a plumber in to fix the pipes in my sink or get my travel agent to book my tickets, sure, i could spend days pouring over a text book and learn what the plumber knows and could possibly fix the pipes my self but I cant be bothered becasue I just want to pay someone to do it for me.

As long as there are search engines and directories, there will always be a long list of clients who will just pay you to do it for them.

Unfortunately there is a sucker born every minute and an army of cowboy seo companies out there that will take their money.

I think if clients need to know anything, its how to avoid the cowboys.
